The Surreal Biological Hostspot; Sinharaja Rain Forest

Sinharaja Rain Forest which is declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO and which is the Sri Lanka’s first natural site to added to UNESCO world heritage, is situated in the South-West lowland wet zone of Sri Lanka.

Sinharaja Rain Forest is spread over an area of 18900 acres or 7648 hectares. Sinharaja can be identified as one of the rare treasures in Sri Lanka which is enriched with bio diversities.  More than 50% of endemic species of mammals and butterflies can be found over there and it is the home to many other rare animals and many endemic species of plants. Many rare and globally threatened plant species can be found within this mesmerizing forest reserves and also some other medicinal plants which are very important resources of Sri Lanka can be seen and found within this divine place on earth.


The degree of success of conserving the forest reserve to the generations to come is still questionable. But anyway, conservation of a world heritage and one of our very owned treasure is a must.
